Statement of Purpose
For the Incorporated Association "the Health OpenWare Foundation"
To manage intellectual property in health informatics, health informatics
being the evolving scientific discipline that deals with the collection,
storage, retrieval, communication and optimal use of health related
data, information and knowledge.
To provide governance and management of intellectual property including
computer software, designs, materials, and ideas which are to be
maintained and distributed under one or more of the 'open domain'
principles including regimes of open Standards, 'open source', 'freeware',
'shareware', and 'public domain'.
Roles of the Foundation will include:
- the appointment and assigning of licences to other organisations
to sell, support and provide services with the products.
- the oversight of or undertaking of further development of the
products.
- the quality control of the products.
- the policy issues relating to commercialisation, exploitation,
deployment, standards, development etc of the products.
- the receipt of moneys to support the products through grants,
fee for service, sponsorship, education etc.
