Welcome to the Health OpenWare Foundation website.

The Health OpenWare Foundation was established to provide a governance mechanism for the management of intellectual property in health informatics held in the public interest. The Foundation provides governance and management of intellectual property including computer software, designs, materials, and ideas which are to be maintained and distributed for the benefit of the Australian healthcare sector and the Australian public. The focus of the Foundation is on intellectual property which is to be available under one or more of the 'open domain' regimes of open Standards, 'open source', 'freeware', 'free software', 'shareware', 'semi-free' and 'public domain'.

The first of many events to be funded and organised by the Health OpenWare Foundation was 'The Argus Forum 2004', held in Canberra on 6 - 7 May 2004. More information and the complete proceedings can be found here.
